"A huge sign that I am over capacity is when I start skipping church because I have too much to do, and I don’t pray because I need to dive straight into work. Staying connected to God is what keeps me operating within my capacity and what helps me understand that God made me with limitations on purpose. Having a limited capacity is not a flaw in my character. It is by glorious design and for an incredible purpose: to realise my need for Him. Life doesn’t have to be lived on the edge of burnout. It’s crucial to start breaking busy before the busy starts breaking you. And breaking busy doesn’t mean you have to do less (unless that is, in fact, what you need to do), it means you give your time and energy to the things that you are created to do, not the things you feel you should do out of obligation or expectation."

Lately, I’ve been feeling like my tank is on empty. I’ve been feeling lethargic, emotionally, spiritually, mentally and even physically. I’ve been feeling heavy-laden, not because of anything in particular but because of everything all at once. I’ve been in overcapacity. This is such a dangerous place to be in because when you reach burnout, your defences are weak. During these seasons your spirit becomes susceptible to the attacks from the enemy because he knows that you are tired.

We often lose control over certain areas of our lives when we are in overcapacity. We lose focus and become distracted by things that don't fill or build us up.

During this season, God spoke to me about the importance of space. God wants to operate in and through you, therefore you need to create the space for him to do so. If you are in overcapacity, there is no room for God to operate on you because his space has been taken up by other things.

One thing God revealed to me was that, during these seasons, I need to be aware of what’s in my space and where I’m getting my fuel from. Just like we go to petrol stations to refill our tanks, we have to go to places and surround ourselves with people that can fill us up so that we can keep on going.

NB: Identify

When you are in overcapacity, you need to be vigilant of who is in your space and how much space they take up. You need to make sure you are intentional about spending time in places which fill you up.
