On one particular day in 2017, I decided to write a letter to God. I asked him a few questions and I listed every single thing that I was confused, unsure and hurt about on a piece of paper. I left a blank page next to it waiting for his answers.

The one word he said was: "MINE"

He then went on to explain how the word mine indicates some kind of belonging and identity. He said I was designed and hand-crafted by him, I am noticed & valued and that I am seen and worthy. He told me to fall back into his identity for me. He said, if I know that I'm his, nothing else really matters.

I won’t lie, I was taken aback. I wrote my queries with the expectation of receiving a lot more answers than just one simple word. I soon came to realise that he highlighted the most important thing, my identity. He showed me that, his identity and his love is where all my answers will be found. He wanted me to focus on falling back into him. We get so caught up in the chaos of life that we forget who we are. So caught up in the opinions of others, that we begin to value ourselves according to how people treat us.

We forget who we are in Christ and wonder why we are constantly searching for answers to questions that should not really matter as much as they do. This word served as a reminder and affirmation, that I am worthy and I am enough. It was also a call to regain focus on what really matters, my identity in Christ.

It was God snatching me back from the world and all it's lies about who I am. It was him taking me away from my distractions and from the places where I found my worth and bringing me back into his palace. God was reminding me that I belong to him.

I realised that in order to understand what this truly meant, I needed to re-acquaint myself with God’s nature. When I think of God, I think of a few specific roles that he plays in my life some of them are: a King, a Father, a teacher and a friend.

God is a King. He reigns and rules, he creates, empowers and enables. By virtue of him being a king, we are royalty.

God is a father. He protects, leads, loves and provides.

God is a teacher. He instructs, guides, corrects and teaches.

God is a friend. He sympathises, listens, supports and understands.

If we know, believe and understand that we were made in his image, then we won't question our worth because we know our value to him. If we live with this as our focus, it is easier to find the answers to some of the questions we battle with. What an honour it is to belong to a God as sovereign, as caring and as faithful as him. We are truly blessed.

There is one of the most important quotes I carry around with me:

"Don’t give people so much power over you that their silence leaves you questioning your worth. Some 2000 years ago, a King laid down His life for you.”- Hannah

This is something I hold dear to me because it reminds me that, regardless of how people treat me, God loves ame, and my worth and identity is rooted in him.

He loves you.

You are worthy.

You are his.
